Completed Commissions

Our Yarning / Library for All Commission *plus 2023

This has been the most exciting and fulfilling contract yet! I have had the pleasure of working with the amazing and wonderful people at Library for All, on a project called Our Yarning.

"Our Yarning is a free library of books and educational resources created by and for First Nations people. Our Yarning aims to address the disproportionate impact of illiteracy and low education attainment among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children." https://libraryforall.org/impact/australia-our-yarning/

There is so much I want to say, I am grateful for this opportunity and for the ongoing work I get to participate in now that my contract is over. This has further solidified my desire to illustrate and write books. It has taught me patience, new techniques, and new ways to create art and share stories.

After the completion of Mud House and Pilots Fly High, I was offered a contract lasting a year that allowed me to illustrate the books you see in this image. I have since started work on my first written story and am about to embark on writing and illustrating the second.

Special thanks to Jenni, Jess, and Julie. They have been my guides and teachers throughout this entire project and beyond. I have learned more from them than any workplace involving art that I have ever been a part of. The acceptance, kindness and understanding of this group and the projects we embark on have been fun, challenging, eye opening and educational.

This project has been a personal journey for me in reconnecting with my indigenous knowledge and being able to share my culture through art and storytelling. I have a passion for working with good people and good companies, it’s important to me that what I do is in some way contributing in a positive way to the world. Rather than working for the machine and getting no personal fulfilment. I’m sure I have made art about it at some point haha and will likely continue to do so.

You can read all my books and more using the free app: Library For All - Our Yarning. Found on the website. And purchase hard copies by typing in the title of the book you would like here: https://ouryarning.org/collections/all

From 2018 to 2020 I was commissioned to create the Kimberley Pregnancy Book for the Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Service in Broome WA. This was my first ever illustration commission. From the page layouts to the illustration, I consider this to be one of my biggest achievements.

This book was designed to deliver information to indigenous peoples of the Kimberley and has since made it's way as far south as my home town Albany WA!

This work was made possible by, Nindilingarri Cultural Health Service, The Yiriman Project, The Kimberley Elders, Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services, WA Country Health Services and the Nini Helthiwan Project and the wonderful Pat McCready who provided me with the correct midwifery information and more, we were able to create this beautiful little booklet for new and returning mothers/fathers and families. Special thank you to Barbara Bynder for the use of her artwork 'Manta Ray'

I will forever be grateful for the opportunity and am always on the lookout for another like it.
